In general I don't participate in the social media trend of posting old photos on a Thursday  (and I won't be doing that today) but as I'm in my birth town (Kirkcaldy) this week, I took this photo today as a momento of my occasionally misspent youthhood here.  In Scotland,  brown road signs with a blue thistle can be seen in tourist areas giving directions to a place of special interest such as a castle or a nature reserve, but instead this one points towards another class of iconic landmark, a chip shop.  Locally it's known as Beatrice's, after the matriarch of the Valente family who served behind the counter there for as long as anyone can remember.  Sadly she died a few years ago, but only after reaching the age of 99, which leads me to wonder how much of what's on the menu I should be eating while I'm here.
