PATRON SAINT

This is Les, who likes to get in to his place of work in the arches beneath Charing Cross Station before 06:00 so that he can make some progress on his own before his colleagues arrive.  In the many years that I've known him, I've never heard him complain about anything, or be anything other than friendly and obliging, in spite of what many would consider to be a less than ideal working environment.  When I asked him last week if he would be a subject for my 500 portraits project, he agreed without hesitation, so I led him away from the unforgiving mercury vapour light towards the entrance to the arches, for a welcome dose of vitamin D.
