Yesterday I visited Pevensey Bay on the south coast of England, at the invitation of relatives of mine who recently bought a house there.  The building needs some major redevelopment but one aspect which is never going to change is this view from their back garden.  I was a little worried for them that the waves were getting very close and it wasn't even high tide yet, but fortunately they weren't.  Apparently it was exactly here that William the Conqueror landed before defeating King Harold II and his army about 10 miles inland, and the rest is history.
